I usually do my route planning using bikerouter.de , export the GPX to phone, open GPX file using Element application, and voilà …
But sometimes i need to do it on the move. My favorite mobile bike and running application is OSMand+ . The “Plan a route” feature is quite good. Unfortunately, i found out that routes created this way are unusable on Wahoo: it does not stick to road
I found an now offline site and from internet archive managed to find a (bit tedious) solution:
Once the route has been created, i “start follow track”, let it calculate, then hit “details” button, and then “share as file”. The resulting file can then be loaded to GPS using the app, and it will be functionnal
Next step: find out why turn by turn navigation is not always available. Might be a compatibility issue (Wahoo official docs says the only apps able to generate gpx files with turn by turn instructions are kommot and strava. Also route cannot be longer than 200k). But some of the routes i created using bikerouter.de do have those instructions, and some don’t.
