TL;DR : went too fast, got stuck in Z3, so the finish was though.
Objective: redo previous z2 run with fresher legs. I still did a daily 1h z2 training in gym during the eek, avoiding running, but nothing more. So fresh legs.
The route: Take a train to Villefranche-sur-Saône, run back home along the river. About 45k depending how i manage the end (already thinking about pushing toward 50k). 1st time i don’t finish where i start. Also first flat mostly road marathon.
How it went: upon starting HR swiftly went to z3 and never went down. At first i felt good and thought my watch was cadence locking (measuring running cadence instead of HR), so i let it go.
After 10k i concluded i was really in Z3, and energy was going down.
After 20k i reached Neuville sur Saône and entered a area i know quite well, i sometime bike commute around here, and i remembered the boring long path between heavy traffic road and the monotonous river. Legs were getting heavy. i started walking more.
I meet some friends eating at a guinguette. I drink a coke with them before heading off. The next 20 and some k will be tough, with legs even more tired and a meeh landscape.
Watch battery died shortly after passing the marathon distance, about 1k short off home.
Afterthought : marathon PB (6h…), not happy about not being able to stay in z2. Flat runs are not my favorite, will try to do more treadmill running in z2 to build memory muscles.
